πŸ“± Digital Confidence

GalaActiveUK is exploring friendly help for older adults using smartphones, WhatsApp, photos, video calls and online safety.

β€œJoan’s Idea πŸ’™πŸ’š β€” helping older adults feel more confident with everyday technology.”

What we're planning to help with

Digital Confidence isn't running yet β€” but here's the kind of friendly, patient help we're exploring. No question is too small.

Smartphones made simple

Getting comfortable with your phone β€” making calls, sending messages, and finding your way around the basics.

WhatsApp

Setting up WhatsApp, sending messages and voice notes, and joining group chats with friends and family.

Photos

Taking photos, finding them again, and sharing them with the people you love.

Video calls

Seeing family and friends face-to-face on video calls β€” wherever they are in the world.

Register your interest on WhatsApp

Interested in Digital Confidence β€” for yourself or someone you know? Send us a message on WhatsApp and we'll let you know as soon as sessions are ready to book.

Staying safe online β€” quick tips

A few simple habits go a long way. These are the same tips we'll share when Digital Confidence begins.

Keep your details private

Never share passwords, bank details or PIN numbers in messages or calls β€” no genuine company will ever ask for them.

Watch for urgent messages

Scams often say something is urgent β€” a prize, a problem with your bank, a family emergency. Take your time, and check with someone you trust before acting.

Don't trust unexpected links

If a message or email contains a link you weren't expecting, don't tap it. Delete the message and contact the organisation directly using a number you already know.

It's OK to hang up

If a caller pressures you or something doesn't feel right, hang up. You can always call back on the official number, or ask a friend or family member for a second opinion.

Remember: if something online ever worries you, you're always welcome to bring it along to a GalaActiveUK meet-up and we'll look at it together.
